Worship Tracks

I was teaching a seminar on building youth worship teams at the Thriving Musician Summit in Sacramento, CA last week and the topic of using worship tracks came up.

Many in the seminar were struggling to find musicians who could play instruments well enough to help out with worship. According to a recent survey by CCLI, this is the biggest challenge facing worship leaders.

Only a couple of people in the seminar were utilizing worship tracks either by themselves or with accompanying vocals or live instruments. This seems like a decent option of you have no players. Are any of you using tracks to carry or enhance your worship services? If so, how is it working?

Line 6 POD X3 Live vs Amp

While attending the Thriving Musician Summit at Bayside Church last weekend, I was surprised to see the Bayside worship team going amp-less using POD X3 Live guitar processors.

I'm not a big fan of "all in one" guitar processors, but I have to admit the guitars sounded pretty good. I've tried using the Line 6 POD Pro at my church with my Fender Tele and I've never been able to get a good overdrive sound from it.

Lincoln Brewster, who is the worship pastor at Bayside, says that they don't use the stock patches. So that could explain the great sounds.

Anyone else using one of these? If not, what are you using and how do you keep the volume under control?

The Good and the Best

I am reading "Revolution in World Missions" by KP Yohannan, who is the founder of the missions organization Gospel for Asia. In his book, he makes the comment that "the good is the enemy of the best".

I find this an interesting and challenging truth. How many times do we get sidetracked individually and as a church from our real calling by "good" stuff. We constantly need to remind ourselves of what our purpose is and check our direction often.

The Scripture should keep us centered. But we have a way as humans of placing our on spin on things to get what we want.
