Your Grace Finds Me

Matt Redman —  September 26, 2013

The grace of God found us at the cross – it was a saving grace that ushered us from death to life, and from darkness into glorious light. That is the centrepiece of all we believe – but that is not the end of the story of grace. For His grace keeps on finding us – the undeserved goodness of God showing up in our everyday existence. Yes, we hear the sonic boom of grace at the cross, yet not a day goes by that we don’t hear echoes of God’s grace in the details of our every day lives.

There are all kinds of grace. The gift of life itself is grace – the freely given, undeserved gift of God. I can breathe – that’s respiratory grace. I can see – that’s optical grace. I can think – that’s neurological grace. I have friends and family – that’s relational grace. It’s all grace – the beautiful, undeserved kindness of God in my life. Whether they’re aware of it or not, no one has ever lived a day without the grace of God at work in their life somehow. As Psalm 145:9 puts it…

Your Grace Finds Me is the newest song from Matt Redman and on his new album that released today. It is a song that attempts to celebrate the grace of God that we find in all the different scenarios of our life. His utterly constant, helpful, present grace in our lives. He is there in the light of the sunrise and in the newborn cry. You see Him on your wedding day and in the weeping by the graveside. His grace is the same for the rich and the poor, the saint and the sinner.

In the chorus of Your Grace Finds Me it says, “From creation to the cross, from the cross into eternity, Your grace finds me.” It’s there in the darkest nights of the soul and in the sweetest songs of victory.

Rebel

Sarah Hart —  September 20, 2013

I have felt more than a bit rebellious in my faith recently; unusual for me, but there you have it. Things prick at my conscience more than they used to. I feel overly sensitive to the politics and policies of our churches. I find my blood boiling at the various injustices that I see happening, and it takes more than one deep breath to calm me down. And in full confession, it sadly doesn’t always lead me down a path of change, just a path of anger.

We’ve all had weeks that have treated us less than great. Okay, who am I kidding, we’ve all had weeks that have treated us pretty poorly. Maybe you work a full-time job in addition to your responsibilities as a worship leader and you spent the entire week having to let go of employees due to budget cuts. Or maybe you and your spouse were celebrating the joys of finding out your pregnant, only to have it cut short due to a miscarriage.

The list of less-than-ideal situations we find ourselves in goes on and on. Life happens and we still have other responsibilities that we do our best to be faithful to, but it doesn’t mean that we always get it right or even have the capacity to give 100% of ourselves to those roles all of the time. No matter how bad we may want to…

Oceans by UNITED

Josh Pauley —  September 17, 2013

In ministry, we often find ourselves in a place of wanting to do more for God. That isn’t a bad desire to have, but the truth is, God doesn’t want us to do more for Him, He is actually just looking for more of us, more of our heart. Coincidentally, when God gets more of us He is able to do more through us. One of the lyrics in Oceans by UNITED says, “My faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior.” If we are able to wrap our minds around that statement it can completely transform our faith. It becomes about chasing after God and allowing our service to be an outflow of that. Sometimes that simple truth gets lost in the busyness of our roles…

God Doesn’t Want Our Songs

Jimi Williams —  September 13, 2013

God is saying, “I appreciate your effort, but I really don’t need your singing (sacrifice). What I really want is your heart.” Worship leaders spend a large amount of their time picking songs, scheduling their team, working out bugs in the sound system, shopping for new gear and rehearsing. God knows that all these things are important. However, often these “good things” distract and prevent us from the “best thing”: preparing our hearts…

Alive by Young & Free

Josh Pauley —  September 10, 2013

Today we are excited to introduce you to a new worship band from Hillsong! Hillsong Young & Free is simply and genuinely the voice of THIS generation. The NOW generation. Bringing a new sound and giving expression to what God is doing in this generation of young people, seeking to bring a message of life, hope, and freedom found only in Jesus Christ. Young & Free carries the same heart beat as all Hillsong worship teams but seeks to write songs that would specifically connect a YOUNG PERSON to Jesus.

Senior Youth Pastor Laura Toggs writes, “I believe with all my heart that ‘Young and Free’ is not just our name but also our message and our mission. I believe that God is calling this generation to stand strong in their youth and their freedom… and I believe that these songs will see the captives set free. I believe that through this project young people will find life and deep, unending joy – in Jesus…

I read an article recently about a study that was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The study showed participants video clips from classical performances and were asked to pick the best performers. The catch was some of the participants were given video clips with sound, while others were given video clips without sound. A third group was given audio only clips. In other words, some volunteers could only hear the music. Some could see the musicians and hear the music. And some could only see the musicians — they heard nothing.

The results were quite surprising. Only the group that had video clips without sound were able to successfully pick the actual winning performances…
