In the last week, I’ve heard two different accounts of worship leaders who either had an instrument stolen or damaged while traveling. In both cases, the airline refused to reimburse them for the stolen or damaged goods.
To top things off, your homeowner and/or auto insurance may not cover your stolen instrument if it is used as a part of your worship leading job.
Be sure to check with your insurance agents to make sure your equipment is covered. If you need instrument and/or equipment coverage, there are several companies that offer it. I found www.musicproinsurance.com online.
I’d love to hear from you of any other companies that you recommend.

I have talked to State Farm about this and they offer coverage that is very reasonable and extends to travel, and performance venues.
I’ve heard that if you earn money with your gear, then homeowners insurance won’t cover it since it is a part of your business. Anyone know about this?
You may also be able to obtain insurance from you current agent under a Personal Inland Marine policy or a Commercial Inland Marine policy depending upon the insurance carrier’s underwriting appetite. As an insurance agent I generally do not prefer to schedule items to a homeowners policy since most folks have the premium escrowed by the mortgage company which means you pay a year in advance. Why pay a year in advance for this small expense?
I checked with my insurance company…I can list any instrument or piece of equipment on my current homeowner’s insurance policy as “scheduled”. This means it is covered seperately, for all risks, not subject to my deductable and covered anywhere I might take it. All I have to supply my company with is a current invoice if it is new or an appraisel if used.
Cost is really cheap, for example, I covered my son’s snare drum for $300.00 costing me $1.00 for the whole year.
This is the way to go and I would suspect this to be the case with most insurance companies.
Also, if you don’t have homeowners insurance, get a renter’s insurance policy to cover your personal property. You should be able to have music stuff “scheduled” on that as well.
Hope this helps…God Bless…Vince
